Have you ever tried to forgive someone who really hurt you? Perhaps it was someone who lied about you, betrayed you, assaulted you, abandoned you, or treated you unjustly.
You know forgiving is the right thing to do, but there’s something inside that just doesn’t want to let the injustice go.
You may even have made a decision to forgive, and prayed, “Lord, I forgive that person. I release them,” and thought, “I’m done with that.”
But the next time you see that person something rises up within you… All the anger, pain, and bitterness are right back on the surface again. Your mind may have forgiven, but it is obvious your heart is not free.
It doesn’t seem to matter how many times you forgive, or how fervently you repent of bitterness, you just can’t get free of the offense.
